We were using MOH volume 1 last year with my 5th and 6th grade children when I started learning about CM. I was able to drop some of what we were doing (note cards, quizzes) and start teaching my children to narrate using the book. It actually worked very well for us. I can’t speak to the other volumes, but the lessons of the first volume were short and interesting enough to make for good narrating. We were already doing a timeline in book form, which is similar to a Book of Centuries.
That said, having learned what I’ve learned about CM since then, I wouldn’t use it alone. It would make a decent spine, but I’d add in the living books that really help the kids form connections with what they’re learning — a la SCM. You could get a list of books to use with that time period from the curriculum guides, but if I was going to do that, personally I’d just go whole hog with SCM. We’re doing one of the modules this year, and I really REALLY love it. I do highly recommend them. 🙂
