Hi Everyone.  I was given a Mystery in History yr 2 for free.  I was planning on purchasing the SCM guide Module 4.  These times correlate together and I was thinking of maybe just using the free SCM guide instead to save on money.  I am curious to know what others have thought of Mystery in History?  Is it alot of extra or do you think it correlates well? I do not know anything about it, as I was not looking at changing or adding new curriculum.  Someone dropped off a box of curriculum to me and it was in there. So any feed back would be great.  So trying to make a decision to stick to my original plan or add this in?

    Thank you!!

There are a couple of threads that discuss this very program.  Sorry, I don’t know how to get you there, but you can click on the tab labeled *history* and you may find the discussions.

We have book 1 and although we are not going to use it as a spine we are keeping the book as a reference book, oh,  and I’m loaning it to someone else for a co-op class.

We were able to make it to lesson 11 and that was all I could do.  In a nutshell, it is not CM friendly enough for me.  Our family is transitioning to a full CM curriculum and I am not experienced enough to tweak it to fit the CM approach, but that’s just me:)

If you have any other questions I can try to help.  I really liked (loved) the idea of MOH, but the implementation of it was difficult for me, especially when we/I was headed toward the CM approach.  I read the first book practically cover to cover and had all the supplies, timeline, maps copied, etc.  So, I really did want it to work, but, I just couldn’t make it, but like I said, that’s me and my experience:)

There’s a search box on the main page of the forum. If you search on “Mystery in History” it brings up several possible threads that might be the previous discussions you remember.

I got a little further in volume 1 of MOH, but like my3boys, I had a difficult time implementing the lessons.  They just seemed dull to me.  We use it mainly as a reference book for now.  Perhaps in the future we may try again.
