I was reading aloud to my oldest ds 5yo today during naptime. He let me choose the first book and I of course went to ‘A Vistor For Bear’ by Bonny Becker. Most of the books I read aloud to him are not as fun for me the upteenth time. However, this book is just a delight to read. Do others have books that mommy just loves to read over and over?

Another mcCloskey fan here! Blueberries for Sal is any the top of the list. I also like many of the ones mentioned. Others – Katy No Pocket, Danny’s Duck, Dogger, I like to Be Little.

Just wanted to say I checked out some of these books from the library and cried when I read “dogger” we also enjoyed Danny’s duck. Thanks for the recommendations.

My older ds just turned 3, but he is a very advanced and attentive listener – at least when it comes to books. We read a combination of picture and chapter books to him, and he likes practically everything. Here are some that we (dh and I) have read multiple times to him and we all still enjoy.

The Frances books by Russell Hoban. Jim Trelease who wrote the Read Aloud Handbook says: if you like Jane Austen you will love the Frances books. I have voices for the characters and tunes for her little songs. My children grew up hearing Frances and now I’ve been reading them to the grandchildren. I just finished a college writing class where I had to write an emulation paper. I rewrote Bedtime for Frances to be Naptime for Biella which is about my youngest granddaughter who never wants to take a nap. One of my daughters read it and said, “I could hear your Frances voice while I read it.”

Ok, that explains why I love Frances so much. Favorite is Best Friend!
And, I have to say, if you’ve missed All of a Kind Family, by Sydney Taylor, you’ve missed the best!!!
