I’m thinking of buying this set for my 7 yo. Her birthday is coming up and it looks like it would be a great birthday present. I want to double check the content though. After some reading online, it looks as though the editor was quasi-feminist in her day and even promoted some sort of sex education in the 30’s.
Has anyone read these to know if they are appropriate? I saw them mentioned in Karen Andreola’s book and on numerous sites…I asssume they are acceptable, but I wanted to double check before bringing them into my home. Once my 7 yo gets ahold of them, I will not be able to stay ahead of her to pre-read them. lol
I just had a set of these in my hand last Thursday evening at the Friends of the Library book sale. They are pretty cool – the art work and things are interesting and detailed. I chose not to buy them (at a much better price than Amazon) because a lot of the works are just small selections out of the other books (think Reader’s Digest) and so I decided that I would rather have my dds read the real thing. But they are nice. =)
We did buy a 1950s set (not so pretty as the newer ones, but the illustrations are wonderful). We love them…all os us…me, my older girls, my younger boys…
And we’ve not found any alarming content at all.
