I just wanted to share a great movie my family just watched about a mother hummingbird. It is only 45 minutes long. It goes through from the mother building the nest till the 2 new hummingbirdrs fly out of the nest. My kids, even the 18 month old was in awe. It was very well done and a great movie. Full of great information. If you are doing or even if you are not doing anything about birds it would be a great addition to your movies for the up coming cooler months.
Title: First Flight: A Mother Hummingbird’s Sotry
Film by: Noriko & Don Carroll
Just wanted to pass this one on. It was very well done and interesting. Misty
BookwormParticipantMisty, where did you find this?
MichaelaParticipantThank you! We are studying birds right now and this sounds like it will be great!
GemParticipantMistyParticipantbookworm: I got mine through the inter library loan!! Check with your library. Was truely just a great find.
Gem: Thanks for adding the trailer.. didn’t even think of doing that.
BookwormParticipantOK, I’ll try, but most of my state doesn’t send videos ILL. It’s not on Netflix, it doesn’t appear. They ought to send a copy to Netflix.
GemParticipantNo problem! It was so great we had to post it on facebook LOL – we watched the trailer a few times, and I am still trying to wrap my mind around the image of that chick hatching out of an egg the size of a coffee bean – amazing.
SanveannMemberOh, that sounds fabulous! I think the boys would love that, and I know I would!
missceegeeParticipantThis looks so terrific, that I’ve just ordered it! Thanks for sharing, Misty!

aarut4evrMemberI just went to pbs.org/nature and clicked on birds (on the right hand side) and it took me to a list of birds. I then chose hummingbirds and from what I could tell, it looks like you can watch the entire episode on their site. So, if you don’t mind watching it on your computer screen, you should be able to have access to this video for free. Looking forward to watching it with my kiddos. Thanks to Misty for sharing this.
It also looks like there are a lot of other videos/info that you could look through. May be a good resource for nature study.

csmammaParticipantWe are bird lovers here; Thanks so much, Misty, for sharing this video. The trailer looks delightful!
RuthAnn, I tried finding First Flight on PBS nature website and can’t seem to locate it. Could you copy and paste the direct link for us here? Thanks so much.
Blessings,
Heather
aarut4evrMemberI must have the wrong video. I looked at the link that Robin had put on, and from there went to this site:

Sorry if I got things mixed up. This looks like an interesting video, as well, but I don’t think it is the same one that the original poster had shared.
