Trying to plan out what I want to use next year and trying to figure out where to go to next in science. My son is finishing up first grade by the summer and will be moving into second grade level work. He is seven years old. We used the 106 days of creation this year and finishing it up soon. We have not done outdoor secrets yet. What would you guys advise me to move onto for his age range? Should we do outdoor secrets next? Is outdoor secrets to babyish for second grade? Should we move onto something a little more? I was looking at the AIG curriculum for science and the apologia as well. I always seem to go back to the AIG because of my love for Ken Hams work, etc. We do nature study as well but it’s been a little tough since it’s been winter time and everything is dead!LOL! Where do we go next?

Dd6 will also be second grade next year, and I also like the look of AIG. :). We did OS this year though. Right now I’m planning on a filler year before starting AIG in third. I figure it will give her an extra year for her independent reading and writing skills to improve, plus we can do the 4 years of AIG in 3rd-6th, then we’ll probably start Apologia for 7th – high school. All that to say, we loved OS, don’t think it’s too babyish at all, and would suggest doing that next year and waiting until 3rd grade to start a regular science curriculum. 🙂

    Easterner,

Thanks for the advice! I definitely am set on AIG science curriculum but wanna keep it gentle for second grade. Do you know if outdoor secrets has experiments included with any of the lessons?

LOL  about the autocorrect!  Tongue out

I would say they have activities, not experiments, but we didn’t do most of them because I’m a little lazy about gathering needed supplies and dd really just loves reading on the couch more than anything.  🙂   I’m sure other ladies here would have more information about that part of the guide.
