We are supposed to be doing Module 4 this school year but due to sickness and a new baby we have only been working on it for a few weeks.  There is no way we will be able to complete it without cramming and stressing, at least not from what I can see.  Any ideas on how I can simplify?  I have a child in each level.  Right now I’m feeling pretty desperate, any help would be appreciated.

    Prayers!  It’s not easy…

When we were in Module 4 we made use of “A Story of the World” on audio and listened to it on car rides.  I filled in with books from the library, but that’s optional.

For the geography portion, perhaps your kids could just do drills on http://www.sheppardsoftware.com.  There will be time in later years to go into more detail.

You could also drop the Bible portion of the module and just continue doing weekly Scripture memory verses.

It’s OK to say that something isn’t working for this season in your life and drop down to basics!

We have been using Visits to Europe for the Geography portion and I already decided to continue at our own pace for the Scripture readings.  The older children have their own individual Bible studies.  The History is a real struggle, especially the Family portion.  The children seem to be enjoying their individual books but I don’t want them to shovel either just to get done.  Should we just see how far we can get or should I be cutting out books?  I just don’t know.  If I put it off for next year it will really change things for my highschoolers.

I’m in a somewhat similar boat…had hoped to complete MA/Ren/Ref this year. I’m just teaching my 6th grader, but I want to do modules 5 and 6 as written in 7th and 8th grades before high school. Due to a house fire we spent more time on Rome this year due to books being stored and just so busy!

So…now I’m looking at trying to complete module 4 books in 11 weeks…yikes:)

I haven’t totally figured it out yet. But I think I’ll have him read one ch daily from the Vernon books…4 books at 12 ch ea, so that’s 48 days …about 9 weeks.  I’m giving him Adam of the Road for a literature reading.

I went through the Famous Men books and picked 9 main guys…the ones I thought were more famous or weren’t covered in Vernon books or World of Columbus and Sons.  We’ll read those together and I’ll likely condense since a bit long.

We do something different for Bible, and Visits to…, Book of Marvel, and Sheppards Software for geography.

This does not feel rushed  me. But I’m stumped on how to fit in the Columbus book…400 pages.  I’m going to borrow a friends Story of the World…this may be shorter but I’m not sure.  If it feels too crammed, I may have to give up my hope of starting module 5 as written in the fall and finish up then.  If I do, we’ll likely add Bible and geography to a day we have history so we’re completing 5 days in 4 until caught up(instead of one whole day designated for Bible and geography as guide lays out).

I don’t know if any of that helps…just my rambling thoughts…I’m in the midst of planning this too:)

Your rambling thoughts are helpful and have given me food for thought.  You’ve mentioned some things I hadn’t even considered.  I seem to get mind blocks and get stuck thinking I have to do everything.

Yeah…it’s hard to look at so many options and not want to do it all. I’m trying to simplify. Getting there…its a process:) I read the Famous Men books to my dd in 4th grade because that’s what the guide says to do. But I don’t think she remembers anything…should have gauged her age better. For the younger kids, I think just reading good living books is better than cramming in too much spine material because of my need to feel like we’re covering it all. Just my .02:)
