I keep changing my mind about our start date (1st grade), but right now it stands at June 1, taking off or doing “school light” the week of VBS.

Bible-Penny Gardner’s Bible reading guide; SCM Scripture Memory Module 1

History/Geography-American History based loosely on TQ

Science-library books based on topics yet to be determined (we’ll start with “big cats”)

Math-Complete Book of Math Gr. 1-2 (wkbk from Sam’s), School Zone Math workbook, (both of these made CM-friendly with manipulatives until he learns his math facts) as well as file folder games for greater/less than, skip counting, and place value, and “real-life experiences” in counting money, telling time, and measurement

Language Arts-2-3x/wk; I’ve decided to try taking the concepts I want to cover from Dr. Seuss/PD Eastman and other library books as well as including a lot of punctuation in his copywork.

Reading-2-3x/wk; Little Bear series; Frog and Toad and others by Lobel

Copywork-not sure yet if I’m going to do selections from the book we’re using for LA, a poem, or the Bible

Poetry-A Child’s Garden of Verses; if we finish that, a book of AA Milne’s poetry

    Aesop

Book of Virtues for Young People for Character Development

Picture Study-Come Look with Me series and books by Lucy Mickelthwait

    Composer Study-Module 1

Hymn Study-13 hymns I’ll burn to CD; we’ll listen to in the car on dd’s speech therapy days

Literature-either finish the Little House series or begin Module 1 (I might give ds his choice).

I just finished my plans for this year.  I posted our first 6 weeks on my blog.  I had seen someone else do with and loved how concise and yet thorough it seemed.  I gave chapter or page ranges for the week, so hopefully we will still be fluid if something comes up.  Sure looks like a lot when it’s spelled out like this… LOL  This is for my 2 oldest–12 and 10.  I haven’t finished “the girls’ schedule” yet.  They are 4 and 3 (will be 5 and 4 just a couple months into the school year) and begging for “school.”  I find that I often overlook them in getting the boys stuff done.  I know I need to schedule a few things just to keep me accountable.

I’m just bumping this up for someone else to add to it.  This is a fun thread.  I have finally made my decisions and will post Moday.

Hmm…Has anyone changed anything, yet? Wink  I’m almost afraid to post, because sure enough, I’ll change my mind. LOL>

Actually, I haven’t changed much yet. We began most subjects June 1. I still haven’t started Picture Study, composer study, or hymn study yet. We’re doing poetry three times a week instead of one. We haven’t gotten a full week of copywork yet. I started science with big cats, but ds wasn’t engaging. After talking with dh last night, we’re switching to insects/spiders for about three weeks, then after that we’ll see. We’re still stuck on Genesis 1:1 in scripture memory. He just will not repeat it after me for me to know if he knows it so we can move on. I gave him his choice of Little House on the Prairie, Farmer Boy, or Charlotte’s Web. He chose Charlotte’s Web and seems to be enjoying it.

So far, so good, I suppose.

I finally have a curriculum plan together. I had to have a friend help narrow it down for me.

My children will be in 9th, 8th, 7th, 3rd, 1st, and a 4yo.  We decided to SCM History/Bible Mod. 4.  My 9th grader will do the 10-12th grade recommendations.    I had bought him MFW’s Ancient History and Lit.,  but he really wanted to stay on topic w/ the family.  So, here we are.

    Family

    SCM Module 4

(I added a Medieval coloring book for my youngest and Draw and Write Through History for my 3rd grader.  I will be adding research projects based on what we are studying using Streams of Civilization for the 7-9th graders.)

We will also do these subjects together, but I’m not choosing the artist/composers/ etc. until right before each term.  This way I will be able to choose what looks interesting to us at the time.

    Picture Study (Audobon for sure)

Composers (we will do a Story of the Orchestra the first term as an intro.)

Nature Study (I might do a Queen’s nature guide during the winter.)

Poetry (concentrating on Frost one term)

Shakespeare (our first study ever!  I haven’t picked one yet, and I’m thinking winter term.)

Drawing for the olders ( trying to get Draw Today, otherwise we will get books from the library)

Scripture verses ( I think from the 1st pack, + they have verses from church to memorize)

Rosetta Stone Spanish (highschooler will really concentrate on this for a credit)

    God’s World News (different levels)

Read alouds:  Pilgrim’s Progress, Bambi, The Railway Children, A Christmas Carol, Robin Hood, whatever else looks good. : )

We will also do family devotions with dad.  I have a few in mind.  I think we also might do the Walking to Calvary, and Walking to the Nativity from Queens.

    9th grade

Saxon Al 2 w/ Saxon Teacher

Wordsmith Craftsman (not at the same time)
