The Mary Frances Sewing Book is a free download today only on Homeschool Freebie of the Day.  I had some trouble downloading the file as it is pretty large, and I did not know that my computer tells me to “save link as” instead of “save file as” when you right click on the download link as instructed, so maybe that will help someone – evidently others had the same trouble, if you read the comments on the post.

    Enjoy!

Does anyone have any recommendation on when to teach my girls how to sew? My 5yo asked to learn to crochet, and I am debating teaching her. I thought this book might be nice for her, but at what age will her little fingers feasibly be ready for the task?

    Thanks,

    Tara

Gem – All the Mary Frances books are availble free all the time on http://www.archive.org  (I think that is where I got them all… if not search the archives as I’m sure I posted when I got them.)

Tara – the book is for older kids.  My mom learned to knit when she was 3  (in another era)  I think 5 or 6 is possible with patience…. there used to be a crochet/knitting badge for brownies (ages 7-9 at that time)

Sewing – get some sewing cards and have her do those…  then work on sewing on felt…. then go from there.

Tara, the new SCM “Handicrafts Made Simple: Crochet” may be a good thing for your daughter too.
