For years we have dabbled with the SCM history guides, but I always end up tweaking or substituting things.  This year I bought the new Middle Ages guide with the commitment to myself to use it as written, and I am truly loving it! (although I should admit that we aren’t doing the geography or Bible portion at this point…just the history)

I have a child in each level of the guide.  We already owned a few of the books, many were at the library, and I bought what was left on the list.  It is just such a simple but effective way to do history as a family.  The plans are so clear and easy to follow…especially trying to coordinate 4 kids.  The kids really seem to be enjoying it, and I really am.  Dh even decided to read through A Castle with Many Rooms over the summer just for fun and thoroughly enjoyed it. 🙂

I just wanted to thank the SCM team.  It is such an excellent resource!  I look forward to continuing with SCM guides over the years.

We are also beginning this guide next week. Thanks for the review. It’s encouraging, since I have a daughter who doesn’t enjoy history very much:)

Thank you for that encouraging post! We are also going to be starting the Middle Ages guide soon, our first time using a SCM guide. I’ve tried other all in one programs and put my own stuff together too. But I’m excited to use all the SCM resources – they really do seem simple yet rich.

I went to my first HS conference this year (after 12 years of homeschooling!) and enjoyed Sonya’s presentations and recommendations while talking at the SCM booth. It was so helpful!

I have 4 children also and we’ll be doing the guide with history, geography, and Bible as well as SCM language arts, literature, poetry, nature study and artist study and our own math. Maybe a bit ambitious for just jumping in but I see most of these are once a week. I look forward to chatting more as the year goes on!
