I am looking for a humorous read aloud at bedtime for 10 – 14 yo, or all ages.  We really enjoyed Best Christmas Pageant Ever by Barbara Robinson.  I want to read aloud a variety of books, but it has been a few years since we enjoyed a good comedy.  Thanks.

I was just coming on to say Best Christmas Pageant Ever.  😉  I’ll be watching this thread to get some more ideas.

The Pippi Longstocking books might be a little young for your oldest, but these always kept my girls in stitches.

The Phantom Tollbooth has also been a hit because of the wordplay, but it’s not for all tastes. (I’m not fond of it, personally, but my husband loves it, so he’s been the reader for that one!)

My daughters ( aged 5 and 12 at the time) loved Owls in the Family by Farley Mowat.  It is a wonderful adventure with lots of laughs.

We didn’t read it aloud, but my dd laughs out loud at the Bash books (Bash and the Chicken Caper, and 2 or 3 others in the series). Also, the Rush Revere books cause my girls to laught out loud, there again, we haven’t listened to them, they were read on their own.

One of my favourites is Cheaper by the Dozen 🙂

We started Cheaper by the Dozen today based on your recommendation.  Hilarious so far.  The kids are enjoying it.  Thank you.

I second Owl in the Family.  We loved that one.

Although not a chapter book we’ve never laughed so hard as we did reading aloud by Ron Snell!

I need to add Cheaper to the Dozen to my family’s read aloud list!  Some many good books, hard to get them all read sometimes!

A great short story is The Ransom of Red Chief. I cackle.
