We are in South Central PA so D.C. is easy, as is Philadelphia; just to give you an idea of our locale. We’re planning to take the older ones to the Holocaust museum, we’ve been to the Spy museum and the Titanic memorial. Just wondering if anyone has any other ideas. Ellis Island-anyone been there? Others?

    Thank you!

You’ve probably already done this, but what about the Smithsonian?

Yes, we’ve been there. You reminded me of a funny story: When I was little we always went to the Smithsonian for fieldtrips – every year, I think! When we got into the city of D.C. we were told not to talk. I remember thinking it was because people had to be quiet so the president could get his work done! Then, once I had children I realized it was so the poor bus driver could think!

    Blessings,

Just an idea, but you could find determine which states you could easily travel to, then go online to thier Tourist site(s) for the state (don’t recall which department) and look a what they have to offer. Or call them and request flyers and of their centers, museums, sites and other such things offered in that particular state. Also, request/look for various Heritage and Fall festivals related to that state as well; there always seems to be historically linked ones happening this time of year.

There is so much in this country that we do not partake of regarding it’s history and culture. YOu may find some real unique and out-of-the-way place to tell us about!
