Our Plant Friends and Foes by William Atherton Dupuy.

It is no longer published so it is probably free somewhere.

Each plant is personified, history told, with beautiful discrptions and pictures on every other page.

Illumination in the Flatwoods by J. Hutto is also a captivating read aloud for science.  I haven’t finished it so excuse me if there are areas where you’ll need to paint the words with a Mother’s heart.  I like it for older children 9+ and if you wanted to you could really do some interesting things with the content as you read through it.

I hope others will add to the Science section of living books too!  Wise Mothers with high school students what have you found?

Rascal by * can’t remember right this minute but it was also a great one for Science.  Beautiful descriptions of the river and camping and of course raccoons and their habits etc.

    Sterling North?
