We have used and will be using Apologia as a core for our high school sciences, but I just love this link to some fascinating living books that can be utilized right along side traditional coursework!

Maybe this link has been posted before, but I loved reading the details about what they found in each book.  Yes, it does appear some are secular, but in our house we can discuss the differences and make our own conclusions.

I love also how they are listed in sections biology, chemistry, even physics!  I’m betting that quite a few might be available in a local library or as ebooks.  I haven’t checked though.

Most of the books listed would be a great supplement to traditional studies of biology, chemistry, and physics. I do feel that I need to give a caution on The Joy of Chemistry book listed. The Joy of Chemistry is a good book for studying chemistry without the math, however it is very evolutionary, which us why we don’t list it as a recommendation on our curriculum guide.
