I’m surprised – I haven’t found the kind of books I expected to for our plant study. Any suggestions for living books on this topic? I would probably be reading aloud to a 7-yr. old. Thanks so very much.

MamasongMemberApologia’s Exploring Creation with Botany is a good book and is written in a CM friendly, living book style (I’m currently reading that with our 7 yr old). Also, the Mary Frances Garden Book is great, as are Linnes’s Windowsill Garden and Linnea’s Almanac.
Hope that helps a little bit!

csmammaParticipantHi Nancy, we too LOVE Jeanie Fulbrights science books. Also, have you heard of these yet?

teachermomParticipantYou might want to look at the selections at Yesterday’s Classics. I just got the Eyes and No Eyes series and am reading through (just starting)….. So far, so good! Plant Life in Field and Garden and Trees and Shrubs are two of the titles in the series. Little Wanderers looks good too….and maybe Seed Babies for other plant books……

There is a good preview given, but if you’d like to read the whole book online, you can go to http://www.mainlesson.com and put in the specific title you’d like and they are all online there.

Rachel WhiteParticipantI was going to give you a link to the Yesterday’s Classics as well, but I see Kim has beat me to it!
My only contribution is then that “Seed Babies” is recommended to be read before “Little Wanderers”.
Maybe this is a good time to read (or have him read independently)”Outdoor Secrets” from SCM? I don’t have it yet, but it looks wonderful.
Don’t forget Nature poetry.

nancygParticipantDear Friends,
How KIND of all of you to take the time – THANK-YOU!!! I’m off to research your suggestions.
Nancy G.
nancygParticipantOK – one hour later. I researched, I pondered, and I spent!!! 🙂 🙄
Thanks again for the great suggestions!

Sonya ShaferModeratorOh, now, that’s got to be the new CM mom motto: “I researched, I pondered, I spent.” Love it! If only we knew what it was in Latin. Anyone? . . . 😉
