I’m new to the Organizer myself, but I do know of information that is available here on the SCM website. I’m not sure if this is what you’re looking for exactly, but….
By going into the SCM Curriculum Guide listed on “SCM Main Site”
down on the left sidebar, you can select whatever subject and get a list of books recommended for each module/grade. (Thank you SCM for such a wonderful resource!)
You can ‘File’ and ‘Print’ from there. I’m not sure of a Word document that you’re looking for; like I said, I’m new too. 🙂
I just didn’t know if someone had put it all in a word doc. I want to combine some books from different guides and was looking for a quick way to compare which books are duplicates.
I asked about this same thing myself and even started a master book list. You’ve inspired me to finish it. I think it is what you are looking for. It is in Excel though, but I can convert it to a PDF if that helps.
If you will allow me a day or so finish it off, I’d be happy to share. Let me know how I can get it to you…Tonni
Well, the lists are done. I hesitate to share these cause they are so “homespun”, but I did them for my personal use rather quickly. In the rural area I live, we do not have stores or a decent library. Inter-library loans take weeks or months. My best option for books are garage sales & thrift stores. I carry these lists in a little notebook every where I go and check off as I find them. Hence, the “have” column you’ll see.
I personally follow the SCM guideline pretty closely, but there are alterations I made for my family. What I am sharing though, is only those books listed on SCM Study Guide. And, as the guide changes (with more study guides…yeahhh!), I’ll alter the lists accordingly.
Maybe they’ll help someone. If you have suggestions to improve them, I’d be happy to do so as time allows.
(Oh,and SCM Team, if we had that “tag” feature in the Bookfinder, especially the one denoting whether the book was in the SCM Guide, would that be easy to code off of to allow us to sort/print these directly off the site! Maybe??? In my happy little world I dream of sorting by Module/grade/subject, tagging those I have and printing a list of the remaining books I need, that would be awesome!:-D)
Thanks, Tonni. I guess I will reprint in a few days!
I did find an AO master list, too. The link is below. I don’t want all of their suggestions, but I feel like having 3 great lists (I’m making one for Higher Up, Further In blog CM curriculum) will give me the best of the best to choose from.
Hope this helps someone, too. I’ll try to post the HIFI list when I finish it. It’ll probably take a week or so.
Thanks, again.
Christie
Moderator’s Note: I regret that we had to remove the link in this post. Ambleside Online’s license agreement requests that links to their site may be posted only with their permission and only to their home page.
Another great place is OFE. Most of their books are available online. I figured out how to print multiple pages on one sheet with my printer and just make my own little books. They have some treasures hidden on their lists.
I’m sorry that I didn’t realize that AO links couldn’t be posted. If anyone is interested in that list, it can be found on the AO site via a search for master booklist.
Tonni, my only suggestion would be to include the author’s names, but thank you for the work that you’ve done.
Well, I finished compiling the master booklist in excel for HIFI, I have no idea how to share it here. If anyone should be interested, I would be happy to email it. The main difference between the AO and HIFI lists is that HIFI uses American History instead of British alongside of World history.
I’m so thankful for the AO and HIFI sites as they are where I first learned about CM, but I’ve been consistently overwhelmed with trying to get it all done since I started. It’s a curious thing, though. Just when I feel at peace about using SCM’s guide as our framework and think of importing in some favorites from the AO and HIFI lists, I begin to panic and feel like I have to do it all. The Evil One certainly is not happy for me to find the peace that I seek, but seems all too eager to steal it away at each chance.
I must remember to commit all of this to the Lord and seek first His wisdom and guidance and then trust that He will make straight my path. I would do well to remember, also, that my kids are young. I just seem to struggle with how much is enough and how much is too much. I’m going to review my notes from the SCM Books and Things Seminar and the Planning Your Charlotte Mason book. The Lord is undoubtedly pulling me on my own path, now if I can just stop digging in my hills and looking back. 😕
Thank you to everyone on this forum. You ladies are such an encouragement and fount of Godly wisdom. Keep it coming!
I would love ANY & ALL lists you have to offer. Please email me at Iamasahm@aol.com in subject just put booklists.
Also, I am so in love with reading to my kids lately and I owe it all to everyone here. You have yet to steer me wrong or ofter a suggestions we haven’t truely enjoyed. I am amazed at how you all come across many of these books. I mean like Crinkleroots have been awesome and there right at the library and I’ve missed it all this time.
I am constantly prinking off all the ideas you have and have a 3 ring binder full of them I know we’ll never get through them all but one at a time we are having a great time.
Right now we are listening to A Very Long Winter by Laura Ingalls Wilder. The boys are loving them and can’t wait to get in the car.
