I have been looking over the site and downloading a ton of info. I remember at one point seeing something about applying CM to the Apologia science books (HS level). Of course, now I can’t find it. Can anyone share that w/ me? Or, how I can use these the CM way. I already have the books and want to start right away.
Since I can’t seem to find the discussion I had with Mrs. K about this, I will summarize it for you…
My dd16 is presently working on Marine Biology, We do not take any of the tests in the book. Instead she writes a one page narration of each chapter. She is also respsonsible for maintaining vocabulary lists, performing experiments and completing the “On Your Own” sections. At the end of the book I will ask her to answer three written narration questions. The answers must be thoughtful and at least a page long each.
I wish I had done this with all other Apologia books but Mrs. K wasn’t part of the forum then! My ds will do his science this same way when he gets to this level.
For higher level science you may have to ask someone else. I have Aplogia’s Chemistry and Physics waiting in the wings but I may end up choosing less rigorous curriculum for her. She is an athlete and has very high goals, which my husband and I completely support. She can continue her education at a community college conveniently located next to her archery range and start college slowly with no pressure. I know that will probably make some people cringe, but there it is!
There was a post on this before but it seems to have disappered from the forum and even from my private messgaes…strange…
Lindy, I don’t know if it’s on the Apologia site or not. I’ve been perusing this site and thought I had seen it here. But, now that SMH has been mentioned, I have popped over there at times, so maybe it was there that I saw it. I will go check it out.
I like it, cheryl. Like you, I’m not sure if this ds needs the rigorous aspect and might do something a bit differently. I’m going to have him give it a whirl and see how it goes, though. We can always change it later. Right?
Here is the link to the articles that I referred to, about using Apologia science in high school. It is on Charlotte Mason Help (CMH) , should anyone need it.
