We had our first meeting last night for a new CM Study Group.  We’re starting by watching SCM’s new DVD series, Learning and Living.  It went well and I’m so excited for the opportunity!  Thanks to the SCM team for producing this series and sharing it to strengthen the CM community Cool

    I posted a few follow-up thoughts here….

That is wonderful!  Great to hear that it went so well!

We are in the process of launching a CM group in my area as well.  I had to cancel the first meeting because of sickness, but we will be watching LDTR DVD and then the Living and Learning series.

Encouraging to hear what others are doing.

I wish I could come to the group! How are you guys finding CM people? I know a TON of homeschoolers, but no one gets me and my love for SCM. Any suggestions on how to find CM mom’s? I already asked for MI friends here…..

I’m starting a study group in the fall with some ladies that I hosted for the All Day Seminar already in the Spring. I’m so excited! I’m trying to decide whether or not I should watch my Learning and Living DVDs myself first? I don’t know if I can hold out to fall!

My group is small, and I met through homeschool swim lessons, church and a community class that a local private Christian school has for homeschoolers around us. I just put it out there as I talked to people. Some were interested and some weren’t. It’s nice now that I have a few friends with similar styles though to share experiences with.

Lishie and Rachel, I hope your groups go well!  It’s great to build community 🙂

kscrapperw…I don’t really know how it all began for me, but I do think many people still don’t know about CM or they’re misinformed about her methods, therefore, I think education is the key.  Our local homeschool community has a forum, much like this one, but on a smaller scale.  I periodically post links, articles, and tips related to CM, among other topics.  I’ve also invited people to our home for the All Day Seminar and I’ve hosted various homeschool meetings.  I’ve been invited to speak to a couple of local homeschool groups and I jump at any opportunity to share.  I love mentoring and helping new homeschool families.  I always try not to push my ideas, rather I try to provide an opportunity for discussion.  Just in the past couple of years, I’ve seen more and more people opening up to Charlotte’s ideas.

My struggle now is finding depth.  I have not been a CM purist, just dabbling in her methods where it fit.  However, recently I’ve felt a calling to further my knowledge and dig much deeper into Charlotte’s philosophy.  I have a lot of mom’s just beginning this journey, which is wonderful!…dipping their toes to test the shallow waters and I encourage them every step of the way.  However, they’re not ready to dive into the deep end quite yet.   My hope is through this CM Study Group I’ve started, a few divers will emerge :))  Once we finish the Living and Learning DVD’s and after the holidays, I’m praying some will stick around and want to tackle Charlotte’s six volume series with me.

So with all that, my advice would be to educate yourself and start sharing what’s working for you to educate others.  Just opening that dialogue in a casual way is huge!  I believe in time, you’ll find your group 🙂

    Blessings,
    Melissa

    kscrapperw-

Finding people for me was just a God thing……I know that this sounds wierd, but I just started meeting, at different places, people that were CMers just like me.  Now it seems that info about our group is just spreading by word of mouth!  So I guess that my thought for you is to just pray that God will drop other CM moms in your path.  It has taken several years for this group to actually come together.  God’s blessings on you!
