I just saw that there is a Laying Down the Rails for Children.  I’m curious if anyone has used it and what your feedback is.  It looks like a great concept.  I’ve had trouble implementing the philosophy of habit training on a practical daily basis, and I’m wondering if this would be helpful.  Because of the cost,  I wanted to get others’ feedback first.  Thanks!

I purchased this product and plan on using it in the fall – it looks fabulous.

My dh and daughter are actually very excited about using it and even wanted to start it right away!

We have worked through about 4 weeks worth of our first habit and I love it. We use it as a family, tucking it in after family worship 2x a week. It’s nice to have everyone encouraging each other in that discipline and then hold each other accountable. I’m sure you could put some of the quotes and stories together on your own, but WHY reinvent the wheel?? I love that its open and go, but then you are thinking on the info throughout the day/week. I highly recommend it, I have even recommended it to some of our friends who don’t homeschool, but want a simple character study.

Oh, I bet this would be a wonderful addition to our weekly character development that we do during our circle time.

We just got ours last week, and are working through it now.  I have to say, I ADORE having something more laid out for me.  Laying Down the Rails is a WONDERFUL resource, but I really struggled on how to implement habit training.  LDTRFC has really helped with that.  We’re only one week into our first habit, but I’m really looking forward to seeing how this works for us.

I always find myself wanting to “like” these posts. I agree wholeheartedly with kchara. It’s a much-loved resource here as well.

Wow – I had no idea this resource was available! I have Laying Down the Rails, but this is such a great idea for getting the kids involved in their habit training.

And, after looking at the sample I can see why the price is so high (though I wish it was lower:). I could see using this as the base for our Bible training and devotions, but also for literature, poetry, copywork and dictation, and writing assignments. I love that it is all centered on the theme of a particular habit or character quality. It seems like something we would use for many years to come.

Thanks for bringing this up for those of us who didn’t know it was out there!

Mandi, I would like to thank you for posting this today. I had forgotten that it was on my list of things to research and I did so today after seeing your post and was very impressed. So while I sat developing my strategy on presenting this to my husband, since I have reached budget for this year’s curriculum, my sweet wonderful daughter unwittingly solved my dilemma. (God does work in mysterious ways! Tongue out)    She once again did not do what she should be doing and while my husband was stressing, I calmy slid the computer in front of him and he read the description, took a deep breathe, and clicked add to cart!!!!

Yes, I admit that probably is not very mature of me, but then I rarely claim to be mature. I am still 20 in my head and love it. LOL

Praising God this evening and I think I will read an extra chapter for my daughter tonight at bedtime. Laughing

My boys are 12 going on 13 and just turned 9.  Will this resource be too “young” for them?
