Ok.. I have the book of this but I’m not getting through it??

Has anyone done the CD or DVD on this and “loved” it, like everyone here we are trying to be carefull of where we spend our money. Want to be sure it was as good or better than reading it?

Or maybe I’d just get more out of the CD? Also, how long is it?

For me, this book is a resource that we aren’t necessarily trying to “get through” in a quick way. As Charlotte wrote in Vol. 1, “The mother devotes herself to the formation of one habit at a time, doing no more than keep watch over those already formed”. We’ve had this book for almost a year and have only been able to get through a few habits from each section (Mental, moral, physical and religious). Even though it’s been slow, it’s been so much more effective than ANY thing else we’ve done.

I’m also noticing that if I had focused on the ‘main 3’ first, then we could have progressed more quickly through some others. (The 3 CM talked most about were Attention, Obedience and Truthfulness).

I don’t have the CD, so I can’t really comment on that.

Hello Misty! I have the Laying down the Rails dvd and thought it was a good overview of the importance of instilling good habits. I just ordered the book because I want to learn more and get some good working examples for this. If you have the book already then you probably don’t need the dvd as most of what Sonya shares is really more of an introduction to the book, not a detailed account. I’ve just begun (last week) with the habit of attention for starters and have found relief in being unburdened from automatically repeating myself all the time. My son knows we’re on the same team and he’s willing to help me guide him into the habit of better attention. This is setting a good example for his younger sisters to follow. I know it will take some time, but I’m excited to finally have some good tools that were never given or modeled to me. There’s my two cents, hope it’s helpful!
