Anyone here doing either of these subjects? They are subjects we are working on adding in and so we are looking for good choices. For Latin I am pretty sure we will go with Latin for Children but haven’t decided on Greek yet.

We are doing Latin, we love Latin in the Christian Trivium. We don’t begin until about age 10. But it is going very well, we tried several other programs beforehand and this one is sticking!

    Michelle-

Thank you so much for posting about the program you use. I had not heard of it before. I have been reading about it and think this may be even better for us than LfC. I love that it is Biblically based. They also offer online courses. They recommend starting anywhere from 6th – 9th grade. But you use it at 10. Are you changing it at all to work for you?

Have you looked into Prima Latina (k-3)or Latina Christiana (4-9)? They are from Memoria Press. A local Latin teacher uses these. They also have DVD’s. I plan on using them in a couple of years.

What don’t you like about them? BTW, who puts out Latin for Children?

Hi, Yes, we began using it at ten. If you want, you can email the authors for some other input into beginning ages–they were the ones who reassured me that my son who was 10 when we began would do fine. And he has. They will personally answer questions and emails, usually quickly. I love that it is biblically based too!

The only thing I do differently for my pre-high-school students, is I do not attempt to do a single chapter in two weeks–too fast for the 10/11 age group, IMO. We spend about a month on a chapter. Which is OK with me, as we aren’t racing anyone. LOL It is “sticking” much, much better than anything I’ve used before. There is PLENTY of explanation for Mom if she is new or very, very rusty with Latin. My kids also love the extra puzzle/activity book. It’s not a must for the learning part of the curriculum, but they sure have fun with it! We save the puzzles and games to use as “rewards” when they have worked well and studied hard. The materials are also very professionally well done–not cheesy photocopies or anything. The only complaint my kids have is that the voice of the guy on the CD cracks them up—very serious-sounding older man’s voice and for some reason it tickles their funny bones. LOL
