Labeled World Map Recommendations?

  • We live in Brazil and I don’t think I’m going to find an English world map so I may have to order from Amazon.  Can anyone recommend what works best?  Do you use a poster on the wall that is detailed enough? Or would an Atlas work better?  I need one for SCM History module 1 in a few months time.  We already have a ‘labeled’ children’s world map but it does not have all the countries/states labeled.

    Any suggestions would be welcome!

I use a fold-up paper world map. It’s about 3′ x 5′ when open all the way, but I can fold it down to highlight just the continent we are studying.

We have a Randy McNally World Wall Map (50×32 inches) which we have under a plastic table cloth on the dining table. We live in Israel and have a lot of international visitors, so it is always interesting for the children (and often the adults too!) to see where they are on the map, how far they travelled, how small Israel is compared to their home country…

I also have an atlas for when we read on the couch and want a close up view of a particular country or continent.

I forgot to mention that Book Depository have a selection of World Wall Maps to choose from and they ship worldwide for free. I often buy from them rather than Amazon because International shipping can double the price of the item. Just a thought.

We use these maps from Montessori Outlet, they are very inexpensive and you can order labels as well so the kids don’t have to write “Democratic Republic of Congo” every week for the entire year!  They only show the countries so they may not have enough detail for you but we love them for map drills and then use our globe and an atlas for more detailed and up close views.  This resource was recommended to me on this forum and they have become one of my most indespensible items.                                                                               http://www.montessorioutlet.com/cgi-bin/item/510700200/5107/Montessori-Outlet-Africa-Control-Map—Labeled

This link is for the labeled map.  We buy one labeled and two unlabeled (one for each kid) and two sets of labels.
