I love this forum for homeschooling and mothering. Does anyone know of a good forum to help with weight loss, in a healthy way?

Has anyone had success with Weight Watchers online? Do they have a forum similar to the SCM forum?

Haven’t had success with WW online – but they have a forum on their site that you can discuss things even without becoming a WW member.

That said – I don’t think ANYONE has a forum similar to SCM’s forum…. everyone here is so helpful!

I use the site Lose It to track calories and exercise, and it has a wonderful social component – you can make “friends” and talk to each other on a fb style activity stream.  There are some wonderful supportive and inspiring people that I have met there.  They do have a forum, and it is mostly good (as suzukimom says no forum is as nice as this one, and that is the truth) but I hardly ever look at it – the friends feature is what keeps me going.

Lose It is free, if you decide to try it, pm me so we can be friends and you can get some buddies off my friend list right away! BTW I have lost almost 30 lbs in 2011, using Lose It, and I am more fit and stronger than I have been in years!

You could also try http://www.sparkpeople.com It has a great forum and you can join groups to narrow down specific topics that you want to connect on. Also, they have diet tracker, exercise tracker, and a huge amount of information for resources. It is all free.

I had dieted unsuccessfully for over 10 yrs. tried nearly everything but I lost 50 lbs quickly through taking a WeighDown class.  My weight has stayed the same for over 3 yrs now, no special foods, counnting calories or extra exercise.. (I have 3 kids so I am active 🙂 I learned how to stay within God’s boundaries for eating and run to Him for everything else!! They have a free online weightloss class, and lots of encoragement boards, etc. It’s the best thing I ever did heart, mind, body, soul !!  http://www.weighdown.com

I thought I’d mention another free online weight loss bible study I did a few years back- you also get a mentor who is in touch with you daily – to pray for you and hold you accountable, etc.  http://www.settingcaptivesfree.com/courses/lords-table/

Hey Ladies, I had posted a few months ago about advice on Weight Watchers.  I did join and I’ve lost 22 lbs.  I paid for 2 months and gleaned all I could from those meetings, but decided to go the plan on my own due to the cost.  I have a friend who is a wealth of knowledge on Nutrition and exercise so she is my accountability partner now.  I was losing very fast on WW which is great for motivation in the beginning, but is not good for the long haul.  So I am trying to slow it down to .5 up to 2 lbs per week and I am having to tweak my calorie intake to make sure I am getting consistent losses but at a slower pace.  If you lose too fast, you are losing loads of muscle and the weight is apt to come right back (happened to me twice before).  The websites I am having success with now are http://www.livestrong.com – you can track calories, food and exercise there and it tells you how many calories you have left in the day as you log in what you eat throughout the day.  Also, for a wealth of info on nutrition and exercise you can check out http://www.fat2fitradio.com.  The biggest challenge is getting your head wrapped it and realizing that quick losses are just quick fixes – at least for me.

As far as the question about WW online, I think you could have great success with it.  The program is nutritionally sound and really encourages you to eat your fruits and veggies with 0 points values for almost all of them.  If you want to have everything in one place, WW online is great because you can track your progress, learn about exercise, track your food, see how many points values are in your personal recipes so you can easily track them as well.

Please pm me if you have any questions!

Hope this helps …and great success to you!

Hi! I know this is a really old thread, buy I just stumbled on it and am writing in the hope that someone might be interested in doing the myfitnesspal thing together. I could really use the accountability and even though I haven’t posted on this forum before, I love reading your old conversations because we all face similar challenges and joys as moms in the trenches of homeschool. I was hoping for some of that kind of fellowship on the journey to being a fit mama for my little ones: boys 5 and 2 and daughter 4 months. If you want to friend me, my user name is AnjiNicole.
