Gem, thanks for the idea to download the kindle app. I did that last night and that is a great solution. I still like the idea of a dedicated reader though and after all of the input here I think I am settling on the Paperwhite. 😉
I bought 3 nooks a year ago. DO NOT BUY A NOOK!!! The chargers are junk! They will replace them for free but you have to wait a week. Mostly all the books are full price. I would get a kindle. Kindle has better deals on books if not free.
We got our son the basic Kindle when it was I sale before Christmas. We also have 2 iPads and a Nook. If you just want a device for reading and nothing else, the Kindle is the way to go. If you want to browse the web, have apps or games, keep up with a calendar, or other features, my preference is the iPad, but my tech-y husband really likes the Nook. He hasn’t had any issues with his charger this far. The Kindle holds a charge for a REALLY long time too, unlike the iPad or Nook.
We have a Nook, as well, and have had to replace the charger 2 times. My dc like it to watch movies, play games, etc., we don’t use it for books, only internet/movies. My kindle and the kindle app works best for us.
suzukimom – I had that same problem too! after much googling and reading forums I found out the problem – it had to do with those connectors shorting things out. I did get my case refunded. But then it got stepped on in the car and messed up one corner of the screen – I kept reading and just guessing the first couple of words of the first couple of lines for a while and then finally broke down and got a paperwhite 🙂 My son has a Kindle Touch with a lighted cover, and there has never been a problem with it (the Kindle just pops in there like the Paperwhite does now) and doesn’t have the same problem. Gosh, we love our Kindles 🙂
