    Hello to all….

I have read The Charlotte Mason Companion and loved it back a couple of years ago. And it was what inspired me to go with Charlotte Mason’s method of teaching our children. Since then I have read Pocketful of Pinecones, and it was just a lovely and inspiring book as well. I was just wondering if anyone else has read books by the Andreolas, and if they too got as much enjoyment out of them as I did. I have ordered several of the books recommended by her as well, and they have all been just wonderful. If you have not read them, they would be a wonderful addition to your home library if you enjoy learning from other moms out there using CM methods in their homes. I have not met anyone in our local homeschool group who uses CM, and for a long time, before I discovered this WONDERFUL site :), the only other mom’s using CM that I connected with were in books!! So it was nice to read that Karen Andreola started out the same way! AND homeschooled her children all the way up using CM. My family and friends are very non-supportive when I have shared what we do in our homeschool because they are all of the mindset we should be doing TRADITIONAL teaching methods. UGHH! Tried it, hated it! Didn’t work out! They have all slowly accepted it, but I get alot of questioning still! ( I have four public school teachers in my family!!) But, I am sure there are others out there who have had similar experiences. Well, I didn’t mean to type this much! But, I was just kind of curious to hear if anyone else had read the books or not. OH! And she is coming out with a new one I read somewhere that is a follow up to the Pocketful of Pinecones! Yeah!

    TTFN! Have a nice week!

I did read Karen’s Companion book. She has a wonderful way of writing to inspire the imagination. I like to re-read portions for just that purpose. Then I like the Levinson books when I’m in a ‘nuts and bolts’ mood and, of course Charlotte’s own writings, when I feel like really thinking! So glad you are here!

    Blessings,

    Cindy

Oh, yes, Karen Andreola’s books hold a permanent place in my home library. (That means “Don’t even ASK to borrow one!” 😉 ) I know she used to publish a Parents Review newsletter, patterned after the old ones that Charlotte published way back when. Does anyone know whether they are still doing that?

    Hi Christie,

I’m responding because I feel like this is a place where I might make some friends! We are “older” homeschoolers, having adopted a 4th child 🙂 when were were 49! We homeschooled our older 3 until high school, and they are now all out on their own. I’d read Susan S. Macauley’s book years ago and was brave enough to implement some. This summer I picked it up again, and all these years later it sounded wiser than ever! After I checked out the Karen A. Companion book from our library, I left a post-it, requesting communication from anyone interested who also checked out the book – so far, no takers! Last summer I also had the chance to buy a second-hand set of the original CM books, which I’ve read some of so far. This website has been the most fun and encouraging place to come in my renewed adventure of education at home. I don’t fit the typical homeschooler anymore, but I love coming here and listening to kindred spirits. So I just want to say “hi,” and that I’m happy for your enjoyment and enthusiasm, which reflects your love for your kiddos and God!!

I LOVE her books!!!! Absolutely LOVE them…I have beautiful girlhood, which I am so excited to be reading piece by little piece to my almost 8 yo DD.

Reading CM companion is what confirmed my direction, and has given me so much fuel towards HS! =)Thanks for sharing your hearts everyone! I love reading what everyone thinks!

    Hello everyone again!

WOW! It’s so good to hear that I am not the only one who has enjoyed the books so much! And yes- I finally just purchased the Original Homeschooling Series by Charlotte Mason, and am reading it now! Cindy- I have Levison’s books as well, and yes they are great for getting quick tips! I know what you mean about re-reading the companion, it has never actually rested on any of our bookshelves! For some reason, it just stays on a counter, or bathroom (HAHAHA), or just anywhere I can easily pick it up and re-read a passage or two for daily inspiration!!

Sonya- No, you wouldn’t want to let anyone borrow those! They wouldn’t want to give them back up to you! HA! I know on Karen’s website there is still a list of the Parents Reviews and I think you can still order them, but I am not for sure. I do visit the site from time to time to see if there are any updates on books she is writing or conferences she may be at, but it has been a while.

Nancy- That was a neat idea to put a post it note in the book to see if anyone would respond! I never thought of that idea! It seems in our local group when I mention Karen Andreola…or just let me say, Charlotte Mason period, I get the strangest looks! No one seems to follow me! They all immediately say, Oh! Is that unit studies?? NO! And this is an excellent place for me to meet and talk with like-minded mothers finally! Wouldn’t it be nice if we all lived in the same Charlotte Mason community!! HA HA

Christina- I have Beautiful Girlhood too! That is such a wonderful book for Mom’s and daughters. Have you read “Pocketful of Pinecones”? It is a really beautiful story too! If you haven’t read that one…you should! And like I said, I had read in a homeschooling mag. I receive with an interview with Karen in it, she says she is going to possibly have a follow up to that one coming out soon! Yeah! She is just such a down-to-earth mom, who can really give you that encouragement you need! All the way up towards HS like you said!

    Have a great day!

Ladies, I am very interested in the Beautiful Girlhood book you are talking about, but when I looked at Karen Andreola’s website, I didn’t see it. Where can I find it?

    Faith 🙂

P.S. Reading A Charlotte Mason Companion is what inspired me to switch my methods to CM! (Well, this website was also a huge deciding factor, and I’m not just saying that!):)

I was also going to say, you can find all of Karen’s books at http://www.homeschoolhighlights.com and search under ‘books’. There you will find Beautiful Girlhood as well as all of her others! This is their other site (Dean and Karen Andreola’s that is!:))
