Jumping around in the history timeline within the same year?

I am pretty set on kids learning about their country first before they learn about other countries but that seems to be a problem since there doesn’t seem to be many good living books for Canadian History for young kids(ages 5-8) that aren’t twaddle and that are the same topic for example Vikings. I can only seem to find one appropriate book.

All that to say would or confuse kids if you jump around in history or does the Book of Centuries help with that so that you can jump around from topic to topic in history?
