How would you define a prophet to a young child? I’ve been using descriptions that are beyond their little minds. We are discussing the birth of Jesus and the foretelling from the Old Testament.

    Thank you!

To our littles (now 5, 2, and 9m), I explained a prophet as a “special messenger from God” or “someone with a special message from God”.  That seemed to work for them.  I’m also not super concerned that they have full understanding of everything right away.  If they keep hearing these stories over and over again year after year I think they will grow in to a deeper understanding as they mature.

    Hope that helps!

Thanks, Jen. My oldest is so literal and wants exact meanings, but I like the messenger from God explanation. Any words of wisdom help. Most of friends send their kids to private school and don’t want to teach Bible, so I don’t have anyone to discuss it with.

    Blessings!

When mine are small, a verse on our memory list is always Amos 3:7.  Prophets are His servants who bring us messages from God when needed.

Thank you for the verse; this is what I’m looking for.
