We just started week 3 of the new school year. We started early because I’m having another baby in January and wanted to get as much done before it comes so we can take about 2 months off and still finish about the time I’d like. Anyway, here’s what we’re doing. Does it seem too light to you? Too much? Just right? My son will be 7 in September, by the way.
Daily Work:
Bible/History/Geography Joshua-Malachi & Ancient Greece study guide
Copywork & Recitation (using the Memoria Press copybooks)
Poetry (AO’s Year 2 poetry collection)
Math (Teaching Textbooks 3… I know there are more CM-friendly ones, but we’ve tried Math-U-See, Math Mammoth, the SCM Living Math (I just can’t come up with “mental math” problems on the fly so I need something more structured!), just wingin’ it, and Life of Fred, and Teaching Textbooks is what works for us right now)
Literature (right now we’re in Farmer Boy. Other ones we plan on reading this year are Heidi, Understood Betsy, The Railway Children, and more from the Little House series)
Hymn (sing)
Piano practice 20+ minutesWeekly Work
Monday:Picture Study
Nature Study (using Pond and Stream and the Companion guide)Tuesday:
Composer Study (read a few pages from one of the Opal Wheeler biographies; one biography spread out across one term. Right now we’re learning about Bach)
Piano lessonWednesday:
Nature Study (Pond and Stream–some weeks have 2 lessons, others only have one so if the guide only has one lesson for that week we just skip the Wednesday lesson)
Manners & Health (using the “Proper Manners and Health Habits” workbook from Rod and Staff)Thursday:
Hymn Study
HandicraftsFriday:
Art (after looking at the same picture all week I have him re-create it on canvas :))Shakespeare (using Edith Nesbit’s Shakespeare for Young Readers)Go easy on me! 😉
alphabetikaParticipantThis sounds amazing! I have a daughter your son’s age and I think your schedule sounds great if he can handle it. I will be surprised if someone says it’s too light, I confess. You know him best, so do what works!
Salina FedrickParticipantWow, I’m impressed! This sounds great if it works for you and your son. Have a great school year. 🙂
bethannaParticipantCongratulations on the sweet new baby! We have one due in November. 🙂
totheskydearParticipantThanks ladies! I always like getting opinions from seasoned homeschoolers. 🙂
Congratulations, Bethanna!
