Most of you know what I have been dealing with lately since you all have been such a great help. However, I will explain again just in case someone is reading this that has not seen all 5 million of my other posts. LOL!!

We have recently changed our curricula and method of homeschooling this year. I had found SCM last year about mid year, and I had started using Genesis – Deuteronomy & Ancient Egypt but only made it through term 2. I had thought that I had found something better (much to my disappointment) and now see that we should have stuck with what was working for us last year. (live and learn)Now we are 9 weeks into this school year and have gone back to doing the term 3 part of Gen-Deut. & Anc. Egypt.

My question is this….Should I speed thru Gen-Deut and try to begin Joshua-Mal, or spread out term 3 of Gen- Deut and finish it over the 2 terms left in our school year? Or (my husband’s opinion is) just do it like it is scheduled and finish Gen in our 2nd term this year and begin Joshua in term 3?

My brain is not okay with not beginning at term1 IN TERM1 and ending term 3 IN TERM3!! If I just do it as it is scheduled then we will never begin a new time period at the beginning of each year. It will always be off by one term! But even if I starte Joshua now we could not finish it because we only have 2 terms left this year! HELP!!!

Seriously, what is the best way to do this?

I would encourage you to go with your husband’s opinion on this oneSmile.  I have been blessed and pleasantly surprised

at how well things have turned out in our homeschool when I follow dh’s lead!

Is a summer unit something you would consider?

A similar situation happened to us and we just worked through it during the summer.  As a matter of fact, we’re now year ’round homeschoolers because we enjoyed the continuity in our studies.  We just take more mini-breaks throughout the year.

Hmmm, I misread your post at first.  (Sorry Embarassed.)  What happened to us was that we would have had the third term hanging until the following school year.  We just worked on it through the summer and got back on track.  Your situation is a bit different, but still, figuring the summer mornings might be an option to eventually be back to your term one at the start of a school year.  Just a thought.  Smile

First of all I want to say that I was not going behind my husband’s back asking for advice. He just gave me his opinion and said for me to do whatever I thought would work the best. 🙂

I have thought about continuing thru the summer, and there may be some days in the guide that could be skipped or consolidated. I know there are some “catch up” times within the guides. I already have the Joshua-Malachi guide so I think I will look thru both and see how many weeks it will really take us to do it all.

Year-round school could be an option for us. Our kids tend to get bored over the summer anyway. And being a minister’s family, we tend to have several weeks during the normal school year that get hectic. So how do you do year-round school? I mean, how do you plan it and when do they move to the next grade level? I guess if we have 36 weeks of work to do, we just spread it out all year and take breaks as needed?

Okay, I just looked back at my Planning Your CM Edu. book and saw where the 3 terms for your year can be divided up in different ways! Why have I not seen this already??? LOL!!

I want to have 3 weeks of school and then 1 week off. So how would that be divided into terms? There are also certain weeks during the year that I would like to have off that may not fall within the 3weeks on 1 week off schedule. How do you do this exactly????

I apologize if I sounded mean in my post about my husband’s opinion. I truly did not mean it to sound like it looks 🙂

    Sorry,
