Hi there!  I am new to SCM.  I’ve been lurking for about two weeks now and have loved the discussion topics.  I have wanted to post a reply a couple times, but feel funny not having introduced myself to you all.  Here is a quick run down of me and my family, so that you all know who this new crazy lady that’s posting is Laughing

I’m the zookeeper, as my home often resembles a zoo!!  We live on the westcoast of Canada.  We have 4 bio children and 2 foster children. Fostering adds a dynamic to our home that often gets complicated. At this point our schoolage foster child goes to public school.  The more I read & learn, the more CM I wish to become!  Our children:

    dFs 12, entering gr 7

    ds 10, gr 5

    ds 8, gr 3

    dd 5.5, gr 1

    dd 3.5,

    dFd 1.5

I love digital photography, digi scrapping & reading.  We are in the last phases of home renovations that started years ago and seems like it’s never going to end.  As I read more and more on this blog I get excited with how much more there is to learn!

There you go – Me! Smile ………………………Your turn!

Hey Zookeeper! I am newer-ish here. Just been posting regularly recently. I ( heart ) this forum, very helpful ! We are smaller clan here, DD9 Gr4, DS6 Gr 2, and Bebe1. We do a mix of CM and whatever fits us. wait a minute…. Zookeeper! I know you! WELCOME!!! Yay! You’re here!

Cedar girl, you know zookeeper?? Am I understanding that right? 🙂

Hi Zookeeper, glad you are here. I like this forum too, these SCM families are such blessings! I have a 12 ds, 8 dd, 5 dd, and a newly turned 2 year old dd.

I like scrap booking with my blog, reading, vacations at the beach, indulging in too much coffee and chocolate (sometimes simultaneously), and just learning to remember God’s grace and enjoying life through Him with my family. 🙂

    Welcome!!

Welcome!  I’m also newish here.  We’ll be using Module 1 this year with my ds11, ds9, dd6, and then we have a ds4 and dd1 to join in the fun as well.  We do CM style homeschooling with a little of this and that thrown in if it fits our needs.  We’re in the lovely state of Wisconsin.

Hi Zookeeper, I’m so glad you’re joining us.  I must say, I’m getting a little green of you Canadians up there; down here in Tornado Alley, we’ve routinely had 110 degree days this month YUCK!

My Sweet Husband and I have 3 children: an 8yo daughter, a 4yo daughter, and an 18month old son, and we’re expecting our fourth baby sometime Jan/Feb.

I want to commend you for fostering-it’s such a noble calling-blessings to you!  Also, welcome to the world of CM.  Obviously you know some about it already, but I bet the more you learn, the more you’ll like it.  I’ve found that to be true for me.  I’m a grown-up homeschooler myself-but we didn’t use CM, so this is *new* to me too (we’ve been using CM methods since our first daughter was about 4, but I still feel like quite a rookie LOL).

Aside from homeschooling, I love to read old books, cook, bake, and eat good food, listen to good music and come up with ways to be creative without adding to the chaos around me (creative kids = messy houseWink).

Hope to see you pop up a lot around here-sounds like you’ll have a lot to contribute from your experience running your zoo Smile.

    Blessings,

    LillyLou

BTW: How fun that you know cedargirl! The world is small…

Hi Zookeeper!  Welcome and greetings from the opposite coast — Nova Scotia!

I am not only relatively new to SCM, I am also also new to homeschooling!  This will be our first year starting in September with our ds 10.5 and ds 7.  I sometimes feel like the odd-ball in the lot because I only have two children.

I love to spend time with my boys and dh (obviously), read, write, learn about history, countires and cultures, and travel (unfortuantely I don’t get to do too much of that).

    Welcome. 🙂

I have 5 children; 2 have graduated home school high school ds 21 has graduated from college as well & dd 19 is working in a bakery while pursuing her desire to design and decorate cakes for all kinds of occasions.  The three at home are dd 17, dd 14, and dd 10.

I’ve been schooling for 16 + years, but this is our 4th year of CM schooling across the board rather than a bit here and there, and our 2nd year using SCM’s guides.

    Welcome!

For you newer people…  my name is Heather, but most everyone knows me as suzukimom.  I have 4 children…

    ds (almost 8)

    dd 5

    dd 3

    dd 1

    I also have 3 adult step-kids, and 2 grandchildren…

    dgs 8

    dgd 2

My stepkids were not homeschooled, but we have been homeschooling since the start.  I was fortunate to find out about CM while researching before K…. we started with a mixture of Ambleside Online, Milestones Academy, and my own Canadian resources.  This coming year I am making a plan from scratch.

as you could probably tell from what was mentioned in the paragraph, I am Canadian.  Where in Canada is a mystery (my dh doesn’t like me sharing too much personal info).

and from my username, you can guess that we are involved in the Suzuki program.  My kids do Suzuki violin.  My son just finished book 1, my daughter is about 1/2 way through book 1, and my other daughter is a pre-twinkler.  My youngest daughter stops crying when they play or sing twinkle to her….

LilyLou you must be in the midwest like us, today the heat index is 114 by evening so the Weather people say and I canot stand it. I wish I was in Canada or back in England – this is too much for me. Linda

Welcome, Zookeeper!!  You’ve found a great, welcoming place to start your CM journey.  I wish I would have found this site years ago:)  I’m in the midwest with dh and my 2 blessings.  “For the Children’s Sake” was the first homeschool book I ever read and I loved CM, but felt like I needed a boxed program being a new homeschooler.  I’m now a bit more comfortable in my shoes and love CM and am thankful for the resources on this site and all the helpful, encouraging moms.  Nice to ‘meet’ you:)  Gina

    P.S. 4myboys you’re not alone with having 2 children:)

Welcome!  I am also fairly new… and mostly just read the great posts, though I have posed a question or two, with great results!  We have two kids one boy, one girl ages 8 and 5.  We began homeschooling when my oldest was of school age.  We are in TX and have really found a great place in this forum!  Glad you found it!

    Blessings,

Okay, LilyLou and Linda..we are eating popsicles and not going outside right now LOL..we’re in the Midwest too.  Cool

My name is Sheila and we have 4 energetic, delightful girls, ages 11, 10, 4, and soon to be 3.  This homeschooling journey is an amazing one and I am loving it!  My favorite thing about the “CM Extras” included on this site is the forum.  Everyone here is so full of info and insights.

    Welcome!  Smile

Nice to meet you, Zookeeper.  I have 2 children and am fairly new at CM.  I love this site and the moms here are so helpful (and Doug, too.)  It has been a blessing for us and I am sure it will be a blessing to you and yours.  We are not going outside today either. Wink
