For those of you who have children who love insects or are just looking for a reference book with interesting information, I want to tell you about a book I found while browsing at the library.

Insect Museum by Sonia Dourlot (http://www.amazon.com/Insect-Museum-Sonia-Dourlot/dp/1554074835/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1372433216&sr=1-1&keywords=insect+museum) is a book full of information on over 110 insects from around the world. In the introductory material the author breaks down the Latin and Greek terminology, explains how classification is used and the history behind it, and explains the different divisions of insects.

After the introductory material, the author devotes two pages to each insect/arachnid in the book. Each two page spead includes an over-sized up-close photograph of each insect/arachnid, an actual size drawing, the scientific name and who named it and when, how it got its name, information about its lifecycle, and some interesting folklore/trivia. Even though the book features insects/arachnids from around the world, they are very common and usually there is a very similar insect/arachnid in North America.

The book does have some evolutionary and environmental content, but neither of those are the main focus of the book so they are relatively minor for a book of this type.

That looks like a great book Karen! I just requested it through my library system.
