Okay, this is going to be hard, I know! I have 6 kids, but my school aged kids are 6, 7 & 8. I am looking at all this living book lists and I am having so much trouble narrowing down to about 5 read alouds for the year! My kids love to be read to and often times the younger kiddos will listen in too (4, 3 & almost 2). Also, I have boys and girls! So, if you could only pick 5 read aloud books, with our age range in mind, what would they be??? Isn’t it so hard to narrow things down when there are so many wonderful books? That is my dilemma. I’m sure hoping y’all can help me out! Thanks 🙂

The Adventures of (whatever animal)… (Burgess) so far we’ve loved Grandfather Frog and Old Mr. Toad the most.

I am not sure of my top five, but I read Charlotte’s Web with my kids this year (ages 14 to 6) and they all loved it. My husband read the Wizard of Oz series with them, and they also enjoyed that. The Secret Garden and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory were other favorites.

Thank you so much for all the great suggestions! Some of these were on my list but some were not! How many read alouds do you typically plan for in a year? I realize that depends a little upon the length of each book! I love this forum! You wonderful ladies are so helpful! 🙂

I don’t plan our read-alouds per year. I just make sure I have another one picked out by the time we’re about halfway through the current read. I also try to balance genre and subject, etc. so that we don’t end up reading only British fantasy novels or only American-boy-survives-in-the-woods stories all the time.

We read aloud one book per month for our homeschool book club. Then we have read alouds for history too.

Okay, that sounds great! Monica… That’s true about breaking them up to have variety from month to month! We will be doing that too :). Tristan, that sounds wonderful…. A book a month sounds great!!! I will have to look at the books we will be reading this year, but that sounds doable! We will have read alouds for history and science so these will be in addition to those! We are doing 106 Days of Creation and Considering Gods Creation and there are so many great books to read! We are excited about the upcoming year!
