My dd’s birthday is coming up and family members are asking what they can buy.  What can they buy? BOOKS!  lol  I am looking for a book, or even a series of books, to suggest to my MIL.  Anyone have any favorites?

p.s. She will be turning 8, but is reading above “grade level”, for lack of a better term.

EIGHT!  EEK!! How did I get here?  *tear*

How old is your daughter turning?  If she’s little, and you don’t already have them, the Beatrix Potter books are lovely.  We asked for it for our daughter’s birthday when she was turning 4 (I think) and my FIL got her a compilation book that has all of Potter’s stories and poems in it.  We’re still enjoying it.

I just edited my post, Robin.  She is turning 8.  She will read just about anything, but her favorites so far are The Boxcar Children and the E.B. White books.

What about the American Girl books?  They are fun and my dds “devour” them.

How about the Little House books? Or the Ramona books by Beverly Cleary?

We all must have been typing at the same time! LOL

Okay, 8 (my oldest just turned 9, so I’m right there with ya!)

Grandma’s Attic Series by Arleta Richardson (I read these as a girl, and my girls like them too)

Clementine books by Sara Pennypacker (just fun…)

any of the Beverly Cleary books

The Cul-de-Sac Kids Series by Beverly Lewis (I haven’t read these, but they look great)

The Year of Miss Agnes by Kirkpatrick Hill (we read this as a read aloud last year, and my then 8 yo LOVED it.)

I’m sure there are a million others, but those are what come to mind.  Hope ya’ll end up with some fabulous reads!

Has she read some of the older series:

    Five Little Peppers

    Moffats

    Betsy-Tacy

    All-of-a-Kind Family

Clara Ingram Judson has a “Mary Jane” series

    Lucy Fitch Perkins “Twins” Series

Little Maid series if she likes historical fiction

Many of these have been reprinted so shouldn’t be hard to find

There are lots of good ideas for an 8-9 year old girl in this previous thread:
