Hymn Lyrics…wouldn't it be nice *IF*…

    I am copying out hymn lyrics from Module 1 and compiling them into song books for this semester. And that got me thinking:

    Wouldn’t it be nice if there was one centralized place where all of the hymn lyrics for each module were all ready typed up and could be printed?

    Or if someone really enterprising with musical ability made a CD of just the piano music for the hymn modules, and then printed the lyrics in a small book to go with it?

    Anyone….anyone at all…

    I know I would be willing to pay just for the convenience of having the music and the words ready to go. Is it out there somewhere and I am just missing it? Or is some perfectly capable CM mom or dad willing to make some extra cash ;0)?

    Neat idea – I think they make great copywork too….

    We don’t use the SCM Hymn list, but I went to peek at it and found quite a few are free (printable music, downloadable MP3 of instrumental or instruments and singers) on this site from my church: http://www.lds.org/music?lang=eng You’ll have to search by titles to see which ones are there with the search bar in the middle of the page. Many also have a video file of the hymn with someone performing it in ASL.

    Thank you Tristan! You always have the good advice, girl!!

    Hearing a performance would be especially helpful.

    Until my kids get profecient in their musical instraments, we are going to need extra help on the Hymns. Maybe I could convince their piano teacher to record them for me, too?

    I just want the BASIC hymn music…without all the modern sound effects that distract us from the music.

    Well, I’m not too sure this will help – but for kids learning to play our church hymns and primary songs, our children’s magazine (the Friend) has this last year added an “I can Play It!” section – and they are all on the website.  There is only a few there now, as it is a new thing, but maybe there will be a hymn you are interested in?  (This is the same church site as Tristan, just a different area)

    Unfortunately, there would by copyright issues to work out for some of them. Frown

    Christian Book Distributors has something like this! “Hymns for Family Worship Kit” has lyrics, story of composer & song, 3 cds with music. Steve Demme of Math-u-see put it together. It’s on pg 35 of CBD winter 2013 homeschool catalog.

    Ah-ha! I knew there had to be a reason SCM hadn’t already done this for us! I never thought of the copyright issues :(. Thanks, Doug.

    And thanks for all the wonderful recommendations. I will check the CBD resources out now, Bethanna!

    I didn’t check to see if they have every suggested hymn for every module, but http://www.songsandhymns.org/hymns/
