So I just posted about my 9th grade year with my son.  It got me thinking.  What are some of the electives your HS students have done.  Serious ones, fun ones or how about the ‘because we home school” ones (like home ec that you don’t actually schedule as it’s more of your life).  I thought this might help me find some more interests for my 2nd son who isn’t sure where he wants to go in life.  Give him some things to look into and ponder and try!  So shoot all the electives you can out there for all of here at SCM to ponder!  Thanks

We really let the boys’ interests drive this.  We’ve done flying lessons, linguistics, advanced international economics, history of libertarian thought, woodshop, materials engineering, CAD, piano, guitar, composing, the history of rock and roll, behavioral economics, veterinary medicine, my oldest did FOUR languages.  Look at the people around you in your family and church.   Could anyone teach photography? Auto repair?  Farming?  Running a lawn care business?  Try looking at sites like http://www.coursera.org for free fun elective ideas.  That’s how my one son did composing and the history of rock and behavioral economics.  Art.  Drama (sign up for community theater–even if not as an actor, build sets or run lights or sound systems or costumes.

When doing something like auto repair let’s say.. as my dad needs my boys this summer to help put back together his “39 Ford after it’s finally done being painted.  Would you just keep track of hours and go by that to decide if it’s a full credit, 1/2 credit or less?

Those are some great ideas!  I love the history of rock and roll!
