  • I am the mother of a two year old and a newborn so I’m wondering if I want to homeschool how can I best prepare now while I have a few years to go before I am thrown into it?  What curriculum best follows the cm methodology, what should I avoid, what resources should I definitely look into in order to become the best homeschool teacher that I can, and what if anything should I be doing now with my toddler to help him prepare?

Have you read the series of books that CM wrote?  If not, that would be the perfect thing to do now, in my opinion!  You have time to really understand CM’s concepts and the more you understand the easier it will be putting it all together once you start school.  You can also take a look at Amblesideonline.com.  That is another excellent source for CM schooling.  I did AO this year, but next school year I am doing a kind of combo of that and SCM.  But most of all, inform yourself as best you can as to WHY CM believed what she did.  You’ll have less questions once you start pulling your books together, than someone who only has a vague sense of what she believed.

    Hope this helped some!

I totally agree with Alice. You can get Charlotte Mason’s series online for free on Ambleside Online. I also started planning when my DS was small and have done a lot of research. My DS is now 3 so we’re not fully in homeschooling yet but I’m about to start the early years stuff with him. I have decided I like Simply Charlotte Mason the best for curriculum. There are also free resources on here that you can get. As for getting your children ready the main thing right now should be habit training and time outdoors. 🙂 Charlotte Mason writes about habit training and SCM has books/e-books about it as well. I’d say read CM’s own writings though and go from there. They made me extremely excited to homeschool and parent in general. 🙂

Congratulations on beginning so early and taking on this exciting venture! 🙂

Oh and reading lots of good books! That’s a wonderful foundation! There are book recommendations for that age on here, AO, Before Five in a Row, and in Honey For A Child’s Heart. You can also look at the booklists on Sonlight to see what they recommend. Just pick the ones you like (you don’t have to get them all!). 🙂
