    Hi All,

I am just starting out with the CM method and I am trying to plan my years out (I am using the planning your CM education guide). I have a 7yr old, almost 5yr old, 2yr old and 7month old. I am trying to figure out a plan for Science. I really like the 106 Days of Creation, but I probably can only use that for 1 year for my 7yr old and then after that I really like the other suggestions on the curriculum guide, but I feel those might be too hard for the younger children when they get to be of age for school time. So I guess my problem is not with this coming year, but what to do in the next 2-6yrs. Maybe I shouldn’t combine science as a family activity then?

    What do you all do?

My littles sit in on the reading and take part in the experiments. I just include them as much as possible. Not that they will understand much, but they will feel included and soak up some enjoyment in learning. Then I toss in some sciency-story books for them. Nature study is the biggest science exposure they get. I keep in mind that if all I did was nature study for the first 6 years of schooling, it would be plenty and that one’s easy to do multi-level.

The 106 Days of Creation uses “Considering God’s Creation” (which goes up to 7th grade) for the older children. So you could do that with all of them later.

Or you could cover similar topics and just use different books or have the older one or two read extra on the topic.

Or you could have the oldest one or two learn about something and “teach” it to the youngers. We’re going to try this this year. My oldest (12) wants to focus on birds and my second (11) on insects/spiders. So they will be teaching my younger set (ages 8, almost 7, and 4) what they learn. I will probably re-use this idea many times as my next ones get older and my 2 year old and 3 month old start joining us.

I do agree with CindyS about the nature study being the most important and the easiest to adapt to multiple ages!
