how independent?

I’m wondering how independent I can get my 5th grader to be using SCM. This year I will have an 8th grader, 5th grader, Ker, 3yo, and 1 yo. And I’d be surprised if the Lord didn’t choose to bless us again within the next 6 months or so.

I’d like to still do history together with everyone, like CSMama talked about doing in another post (on our older young men), but am thinking that it would be very nice to have both of my older children doing almost all their work independently with my mentorship and tutoring, except history and read alouds.

I’m wondering if anyone else does this.

My children that age do the following independently: Extra literature and history reading, typing, music practice, math lesson (after they go over it with me), copywork, fact practice…I’ve probably left out something, but for the most part, we’re together for the rest of it.

My 4th grader does a lot on his own also, copywork, spelling (which is from EIW), grammer after my intro, math, and religion.

I would think your olders ones could find they can do much themselves, it also gives them a great feeling knowing they did it “themselves” when they are done.
