I’m trying to pick our books for next year, keeping our purchases to a minumum to save for a microscope. I’ve purchased the new history module 1 and Visits to Africa, and plan to use them pretty much as is. Which books do you consider we should not miss? What about Pharaoh’s boat (one of the more expensive)? There are only a few that I can get through our library. My children range from Year 1 (and younger) to 7. I’d appreciate your recommendations!
Katrina in AKParticipantBoy of the Pyramids is a must! My boys (5 and 7) LOVED it.
andreamParticipantYes, boy of the pyramids should cover everything if you can’t get any other books. We really liked the true story of Noah’s ark also.
Scherger5ParticipantAgree! Boy of the Pyramids for Egyptian History and The True Story of Noah’s Ark for Bible History.
MmeLabonteParticipantI figured Boy of the Pyramids looked great, and I bought it already 😉 Thanks for confirming! I’ll probably get the other history books recommended for the upper grades, and for the Visits to Africa mostly work with what I can get in the library.
srlordParticipantWe LOVED SCM’s Ancient Egypt and Her Neighbors. If I could only choose one book to use, this would be it!
andreamParticipantThis book was not listed in the guide, but it was SO good and a wonderful living book about the OT times you cover in module 1. It is a book I saw recommended on this forum: Tirzah. Between this book and Boy of the Pyramids, you get a great taste of Egypt and the Bible times covered.
artcmomto3ParticipantMy DD did not love “Pharaoh’s Boat”. Thankfully, we had just checked it out of the library b/c we only read about half of it before dropping it. I second definitely reading “The True Story of Noah’s Ark” and “Boy of the Pyramids”.
MmeLabonteParticipantThanks, everyone! This helps me make some decisions. I’m looking forward to reading “Boy of the Pyramids” – it must be a great book! 🙂
lnosbornParticipantI have Boy of the Pyramids and True Story of Noah’s Ark for my 6yo dd. As she is the only one who will be listening in (besides my 2 year old, ha) would Ancient Egypt and her Neighbors not be necessary? I’ve heard good things about it and have wanted to purchase it but don’t think it will work right now with our budget. Would those with younger children suggest it?
