So for lots of reasons (multiple heatlh issues, job loss, cross continent move to name a few) our first grade school year has consisted of the basics – reading, writing, math.  We started module 1 early on but stoped it and all non-essentials when we started transition for the move.  So this will put us a year behind in the rotation of history.  I can’t decide if I should start with module 2 and go from there or back up and do module 1.  If I do module one, do I try at some point to catch up and how do you recommend doing that?

    Your thoughts are appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Amy,

Last year was our ‘Year 1’, and we did not do history either. We simply started with Module 1 this year. I’m not too concerned if we don’t repeat Module 1. Another option is to cover 2 time periods at once when the kids are older. We might do that, if we’re up to it. I think you’ll be ok no matter what you decide.

I just answered another post that relates to this one.  They wanted to get through 6 modules in 5 years.  You could do any of these options for the fist 5 years, then be ready for the second 6 year rotation.

Okay, there are lots of ways to do this.  I’ll toss out a few:

    1. Start at the first Module and don’t take summers off.  Even if all you do during summers is the history module…  This will give you enough time to get through all 6 modules at the set pace.  (we homeschool year round)

    2. Don’t worry about doing the Module 1 year, it’s okay.

    3. Double up lessons.  Start with module 1 and try doubling up lessons twice a week.  You’ll finish the modules faster by a bit (about 70 days faster I think) and will have gained enough ground by then end of Module 3 to do the other 3 modules without doubling up.  This still leaves summers off.

Most of all don’t stress over it.
