Do you read history aloud or do you assign it and have them narrate to you? I have become very weary with it and thought I would just assign history reading for them and then save reading a good fictional book aloud at bedtime. I have 5 kids and find it hard to sit down more than twice a day with the two oldest and then the two youngest.

    What are your thoughts?

I do both. I read aloud a main history spine 2x week and another book set in the time period (biography or historical fiction). Then my dc have their own history books to read and narrate from during the week. I like doing it this way because we are all on the same page as far as progression into a time period, but then each child can further learn about the times and people through reading at their own level.
