Just looking at the history modules and am new to the organizer. Is there a link that you can access to input the whole module plan into your schedule? Or do you add it book by book?

They are already in the bookfinder, so all you need to do is look them up and then hit the schedule it button.  I have found that it is easier for me to put the actual module in as my history resource for my daily check-off list.  Then I schedule the books under the appropriate subject (history, bible, or geography) and schedule those for Saturday.  As we read the lessons, I can mark off the books the day we use them with no pressure if we miss a day during the week.

Is that clear as mud? =)

Sorry to hijack…but I’ve been wondering about this.  What is the benefit of entering the individual books?  Am I missing something?  Is it so that you have the record of which books were included in the study without getting out the handbook to look later on?  Just trying to figure out if I need to do this or not too.

I do it so that my records for the state laws reflect actual books as well as a guide. Then my report is all in one place and I do not have to go hunt down the resource if there are ever questions (in theory, anyway). =)

Not sure if I understand completely…..so when you look at your daily plan, does it show the lessons in order like they are in the written module? Or do you just see that you have to do history and then go to the written module to see what is acutually scheduled for that day? Hope that makes sense. I’m coming from a Sonlight mode where we are reading from multiple books and certain pages/ chapters are scheduled for each day.

Just the title of the lesson will show in the Organizer. You still need to look at the Organizer to see what is covered in that lesson. I schedule the individual books too. What you use will vary depending on the age of your student. The lesson assigns different books for different ages.

In the organizer, you have the ability to change the lesson plans to dates that you choose like Monday is Bible, Tuesday is Geography, Wed. is Bible, Thurs is History and Friday is Bible.  I tried that, but it drove me nuts since we are not always doing a five day week.

So to make it easier for me I simply follow the lesson plan and do the next lesson.  Then a missed day doesn’t screw up my whole year of planning.

As Sue in MN said, it only shows the lesson.  You will still need to consult your guide on a daily basis since it contains the reading schedules of both the teacher and the students.  What happens is that you read the family lesson and then make the individual assignments for each person based on their age.  The cool part is that everyone is studying the same topics so there can be real discussions at dinner or during school.

    ForeverMom,

You know, I think we’ve all assumed you had purchased one of SCM’s handbooks, and were starting there…but reading over this thread again, I think I understand that what your’e looking at is the free curriculum guide here…which does not have a link that I’m aware of to enter into the Organizer.  It is strictly a list of books that you determine on your own how to schedule.  However, if you’re serious about using it, you may want to consider buying the guide for this purpose.  It’s about $15 for the paper book (less for ebook) and then you have it all laid out by day, and then yes, you pull up that one book on the bookfinder, and it lists the assignments day by day – but it does not list the individual books you are reading as you go along.  If you want to consider this, you can go ahead and enter the book (Module 6 is Modern Times, Epistles and Revelation for example) in your organizer…then you’ll see just what it looks like and can decide whether that amount of info suits you or if you want the individual book titles you’re reading listed there also.  I hope this makes sense!!

Thank you all for your responses! It makes sense now….I hadn’t purchased one of the manuals yet because I was just starting to consider it. I will try your suggesetion, anniepeter, and input a module to see what it looks like. We are currently doing Sonlight which we have done for years, but the core we are in right now just seems like there is SO much reading we are just rushing to get through everything and stay on track….not savoring it so to speak. Thought the CM modules look a little more “relaxed”.
