Hello, I am just getting started with the  CM method & I love how history is done in 6 years.  I have 9 kids, but my oldest is 14.  I want to start with module 1 but I realize that she will not be part of all 6 modules.  Do you have any suggestions as to what I can do or is this something I don’t need to worry about?  I really want her to have studied American History.  Thanks for your help!

I know a couple of people have done the 6 years into 5 using the modules…   I think they generally have combined module 1 and 2….

I think it would be possible (without a lot of strain) to do Module 1, and part of Module 2 the first year, and then the rest of Module 2 and Module 3 in your second year.

    Keep in mind…. I haven’t done this….

Probably someone with more experience with it will answer too…

We are combining mod 2 & 3 because dd 16 (almost 17) has only two years left and wanted to do the ancients in whole before graduation as well as medieval time periods before graduation since she has already sufficiently covered World History & Am. History.  Last year we did mod 1, with the idea to do all of the ancients, until she realized she’d like to do mod 4 as well before graduation.

I am using Beautiful Feet Ancient History as a guide to combining, but also have mod 2 & mod 3 to add in the extra books since BF includes Egypt which we covered last year.  If you like, once I get my duckies closer to being in a row, I can post how I’m working out my year.

And looking back, this post is kind of all over the place.  I’m sorry.  Trying to type this up while making supper.

    Have a blessed evening,

We have done mod 1 and part of mod 2 this last year and it was fine.  We plan to to the rest of mod 2 and mod 3 next year.  Sometimes the Bible reading (when doing 2 lessons a day) was too long for my 1st grader to listen to in one sitting, so I would find the passages I needed to read and read them out of a good Bible story book so that she got the basic story without having to listen to 5 chapters at once.  I actually did not really like doing this because I prefer to read straight from the Bible. But I figured it was a good compromise for a first grader.

I would think that a 14yo could pretty easily do mod 1-3 in two years, but I have not really looked at the extra reading recommended for that age range.

Can I ask you a question, please?  What is it that you love about the 6-year history rotation?

I would combine mod. 1 and 2 if you haven’t done any of them yet. We did mod 1 last year and I didn’t calculate that my oldest won’t get mod 6 twice if I did the 6 year rotation. So, this year I am doing a combo of 2 and 3 and then continue on. We will probably do a 6 year rotation the next go around.
