This may sound totally anti-CM but… I’m thinking about how to “grade” a written narration for the purpose of keeping grades for high school transcripts.  Some friends had suggested looking on-line for writing rubrics.  I have seen them before and actually can see the benefit. They lay out clearly what is expected in an assignment and give the parent/teacher a more objective means for grading.  Right now, when my daughter hands me a narration that I can tell is not her best work, mostly lacking content, I just tell her “I think you can do better than that.  Think and write about this aspect or that discussion in your reading. Please write it over.”  She gets mad at me, but will do a much better re-write, even admitting herself that the first one was not very good. But I’m wondering if having a more objective grading guide would help.

Does anyone have experience with grading any subject using a rubric?  How do you grade for highschool?  I have not really kept grades throughout elementary school, other than for math, so this is uncharted territory for me.  Would love to hear from some experienced CM-high school moms.

    Thanks,

    Hi KIm,

I don’t have any high schoolers yet, but have come across some rubric info recently. I found some rubric info. you may find helpful; I don’t have any made up that I have used. Also, the back of my Intermediate LAnguage Lessons has an essay rubic if you want me to tell what are the criteria.

Here’s an article about using CM Through HIgh School.

    Howver, here’s some LA rubrics.

Here’s a blog about CM ‘grading’ using a rubric and some links.

Hope that gives you a little more to chew on, sorry I couldn’t offer more details of practical application.
