    Hello,

I’m just planning ahead here.  My daughters are in 2nd and 5th right now.  We are doing Early Modern History.  If we do Early Modern, then Modern, and repeat the 4 year cycle, my oldest will finish it up in tenth grade.  Is it ok to do Early and Modern in 9th and 10th grade?  Do I just do Ancients for 11th and Medieval in 12th?  If I do that, when do I do government and economics?  I want to make sure she is able to succeed in college with whatever order we do.  Not sure if order will effect that?  Any advice?

First- which history curriculum are you using? If you are using CM, there are more than 4 cycles, so you will have to pick and choose.

If you are using something else, then the cycle you have laid out will be fine. It is certainly okay to do Ancients and Middles Ages 11th and 12th. You can do the cycle that works best for her.

As for government and economics, most people cover these topics whenever they study modern history. So for her, you would probably want to do that in 9th and 10th grade. Choose the books wisely, because sometimes they are written at a more advanced and difficult level. Most publishers assume that the oldest high school students are doing these courses. If you are using living books, then it shouldn’t be an issue.

I don’t think college success is dependent on when you study the history time periods. The point is that they are studied, and studied well. So don’t worry about that!
