Oh, I also think in fairness I should repeat what I’ve often heard on this college-bound list, many of the listmembers are secular.  They say that in the California college system, Apologia (and Bob Jones and some other religious texts) are considered religion texts and NOT science texts and the UC system will NOT accept courses using them as science credits.  I do not know this for myself; we did not apply to any UC schools and we had no trouble getting courses using Apologia accepted as high school credit ourselves.

I have heard that as well.  What do you think about the new High school level chemistry course being put out by Real science 4 kids? And I am not planning on sending my kids to CA for school so thankfully I don’t have to worry about that but I do want a good chemistry course for HS.

I couldn’t say without seeing the additional material, especially the chapters on stochiometry and thermodynamics.  I’ve never looked very hard at these materials because they were always “behind” my kids in their development–just came out with their elementary stuff when we’d already bought and gone through some elementary stuff, etc.  I HOPE that it has all the necessary math in it.  It does look as though it might be pricey to get everything–you can get used Apologia sets for $40-50 dollars.

DIVE Science is another option. You get to pick the textbook you use with it.
