    Hello,

We are homeschooling using a variety of curriculum. Our daughter is 15. I’m wondering and needing advice on how to change midstream in how to educate her. We are drawn to Cm and her ways…just don’t know how or where to start, seeing we haven’t been using her methods. Any suggestions?

I don’t have much time, but I think reading up on the method would be very helpful to you..this site has some free resources for that.  There are several books you could choose from to read about CM that aren’t too long which would help.  This forum is invaluable to me for all things CM, including high school.  SCM has a new resource that does include the high school years, as well.

As far as curriculum, you could easily use the Free Curriculum Guide to make choices for your daughter, swapping out what you are using to more CM materials/ideas, etc.

It seems that narration is the most difficult idea to “get” which CM used all through high school (oral and written) so that may be something that takes the most getting used to.  You may want to read up on that to not frustrate yourself or your daughter. It may seem too easy or too hard, but it is neither.  Effective is the word I would use, but it does take a leap of faith to push through to see the results.

I’d be more than happy to share my ds15 subjects/materials and how we use them..I would send you a PM.  With that said, CM is much, much more than a set of books/curriculum, which I’m sure you already know, but just wanted to make that clear Laughing.

Maybe you could share what you are currently using, what she has already studied, her interests, etc.  That may help to give you more specific suggestions.

    A few quick things –

Read everything you can on CM to fully understand what you are taking on.  It’s not like other “curriculum” you may be aware of but is much more of an overall philosophy of education with very specific methods involved. The methods make it.  If you don’t understand them or find they are not something you’d like to implement then CM probably won’t work for you.

Changing to CM won’t be too hard but it may feel awkward. Watch the videos on the SCM site and start small and work your way up to doing all your subjects with CM.  Use the “search” feature to look up answers on the forum too.

The SCM All day seminar DVD series is a great way to understand how to teach each subject w/CM approach.
