(The Butterfly by Patricia Polacco)  I didn’t realize when I picked up this book from the Library that it was a Living History Book!!!  My dd (7.5 Yrs.) and I read it this morning.  I don’t usually get choked up when reading childrens books, but this was definitely an exception.  This book is based on a true story about the Nazi occupation of France and the people who helped the Jews in hiding.  It is a story that can be finished in one sitting.  I think it would be appropriate for a very wide age range (6 and up).  Just thought I’d put this out there for anyone studying this time in history with young children.  Make sure to read the Author’s Notes at the end!!!

It’s a WONDERFUL book!  Love Patricia Polacco anyway.  But so poignant.  Our wonderful French son came from such a family.  His grandmother’s father was recently honored by Israel for his part in helping/hiding Jews.  His grandmother would carry hidden messages in her bicycle.
