How about hulu? If we have Netflix is streaming hulu just getting the same things or are there different shows available?
caycecronkMemberBeen praying about getting rid of direct tv! Please pray that my husband will have the same change of heart! He still likes to watch his football. They do have some Christian channels that are great too but we hardly ever watch tv anymore since homeschooling. It’s amazing how your life takes on new meaning when you begin homeschooling. I just don’t have the need for tv anymore! My kids watch some of there favorites and that’s about it. Would love to get Netflix!
Wings2flyParticipantBumping this and wondering if anyone else can share what they have been watching on Netflix.
Magic School Bus
Drive Thru History (some episodes) The rest are on iTBN or TBN on Roku.
Antiques Road show
We just started getting Amazon Prime too and watch Mister Rogers on it.
pslivelyParticipantLately at my house, it’s been Big Cat Diaries, Blue Planet, and anything by Ken Burns or David Attenborough. We also just watched My Life as a Turkey — highly recommended.
Rachel WhiteParticipantKeep in mind I have an almost 13yr. old adn a 12 yr. old. Also, most of these are my picks (i.e my interests)
Great Expectations! With Gillian Anderson as Miss Haversham – wonderful!
and Bleak House
The A Team
X – Files
Star Trek original and Next Generation
Ken Burns “Prohibition” and “Dust Bowl”(excellent)
Cadfael (w/Derek Jacobi)
Downton Abbey (Season 1 on Netflix, Season 2 and 3 on Amazon, will watch 4 on PBS on ROKU)
Call the Midwife (S1 on Neflix, #2 on PBS ROKU)
Monarchy (my third time through)
Unconditional
Gifted Hands (about Dr. Ben Carson)
Secrets of the Viking Sword
Phantom of the Opera at Royal Albert HAll
Leave it to Beaver
Dick Van Dyke Show
Family Ties
Cleopatra (Elizabeth TAylor)
Becket (w/Peter O’Toole/King Henry II and Richard Burton/Sir Thomas Becket
The Agony and teh Ecstasy
Little Men
cdm2kkParticipantWe are watching the Leave it to Beaver Series and my kids 7& 8 like The Wild Kratts, this is an animal show that educates on all the different animals. The Gladys Alward movie is called Inn of the sixth Happiness or something like that, it was good. Whe you search, you can just pull up topics too like Egypt or columbus and it will pull up documentaries that way. At least that is how I do it.
DO not trust the NEtflix ffor kid version to be any protection at all against foulness. It doesn’t. I promise!! There was a comedian that does puppets that got thru and he was foul mouthed big time!!
I’m in the room if our tv is on. A really good way to screen or research all the tv series etc. is online with commonsense.com HTH
crazy4boysParticipantYes to many of the above – I won’t relist them!
Peep and the Big Wide World
Merlin
Dr. Who
Weapon Masters
Man vs. Wild, Man Woman Wild, Dual Survival, Survivorman
Psych
Phineas & Ferb
Scholastic Storybook Treasures (there are several collections)
Wings2flyParticipant19 and Counting with the Duggars is back! And there are 10 seasons. I am hoping I will get through them before they take them off again.
We found some good ones on the Storybook Treasures, namely So You Want To Be President.
Alicia HartParticipantLove the Duggar episodes!
Sense and Sensibility
In the Arms of Angels
Creatures that Defy Evolution
Emma
A Little Princess
Wives and Daughters (more for adults)
FYI -I did not care for the version of Little Men on Netflix
Rachel WhiteParticipantMy son is working through the old Dr. Who series; we don’t really care too much for the new ones available. He also likes Voyager.
I must give a shout out for Sherlock. It is excellent! Awesome! Two seasons (6 1 1/2 hr. episodes) are avialable. You have to pay attention though, as the storyline can be complex and Sherlock himself fast-paced in his deductions. FUN!!
A few profanities here and there, though not as many as I expected, considering it’s the BBC.
Also, Call the Midwife – first season. The other season is available on PBS.org which is also streaming on Roku.
Secrets of the Dead documentary series.
The Twilight Zone
The INcredible HUlk tv series from late 70’s early 80’s
Captain America movie (I really liked it)
Speaking of Roku, on the PBS.org are the new The Hollow Crown Shakespeare movies. They’ve completed Richard II and Henry IV, with Henry V to follow soon.
I decided Hulu wasn’t necesasry. The only reason I’d be getting is for BONES. So I just buy BONES per episode at Amazon, since Netflix is not up-to-date on the episodes. Even though it may end up costing a couple of dollars more, the ability to NOT have the additional choices at hulu is a good thing.
When mine were yuonger they watched the old 60’s Spiderman and even older Superman cartoons available.
G-D of Wonders is streaming currently. Also, Chitty-Chitty BAng Bang and Franco Zeferelli’s classic Romeo and Juliet.
suzukimomParticipantCall the Midwife season 2 was recently added to netflix….
ServingwithJoyParticipantDon’t know if this was listed, but Journey of Discovery and The Civil War by Ken Burns is on Netflix now.
Could anyone enlighten me on how to keep a rating limit on what my kids can search on Netflix? I don’t like them even looking at the PG-13 or 14 options, but I haven’t seen a way to ‘block’ ratings from showing up on the menus.
Wings2flyParticipantI am not sure about Netflix but it was easy on Amazon for Prime to limit ratings, but then I was limited to not having unrated which many older movies and newer documentaries are.
Rachel WhiteParticipantThe problem you mention, wing2fly, is what we had with Netflix when we tried to limit the ratings. When I chose nothing under PG-13, it limited all the NR ones, too.
So, I undid the limitations and it’s just a rule in my house that the children cannot search without our presence – and search for something specific, not a general one – and they can’t use the remote without permission, either.
