I would like to get God’s World News for my kids.  I have two girls, 8 and 10.  Do I really need to get them their own level of the magazine?  My DD8 would have no trouble reading the 5th/6th grade issue.  Is there a reason that I should get the 3rd/4th grade for her?  My DD10 really struggles with reading, so I thought about just getting the 3rd/4th grade level (though that is still above her current reading level).  But, I also want her to get as much that is her level so that she is challenged and her mind/thinking is allowed to develop as it should instead of continuing to give her things below her (for lack of a better word).  Does that make sense?

They are being revamped for the coming year anyway. There will be only 3 – God’s Big World for prek, WorldKids for elementary, and WorldTeen for middle and high school. I think it will be a good simplified focus.

Thanks, missceegee. I was seriously considering subscribing, also. Their website is not yet reflecting the change you mention, so I’ll hold off on ordering.

Hi! I tried to call the phone number listed on their website to ask some questions about the new format and got a message that the number had been disconnected. I tried it twice to make sure that I had dialed the number right.

Has this happened to anyone else?

Hmm. I spoke with someone last week. Here’s what I shared with my co-op.

God’s World News is streamlining their offerings for the coming year. There will be 3 magazines to choose from: God’s Big World (PreK & K), WORLDkids (elementary), and WORLDteens (middle & high school). Remember that all magazines come with access to wonderful digital components.

To learn about the new magazines, visit http://www.wng.org/worldkids and http://www.wng.org/worldteen. You can learn more and see samples of the current offerings here – http://www.gwnews.com

Just a note of caution with GWN – or actually, World Mag.  My ds was in a study group this past year and the student’s rec’d the regular magazine, World Mag, for 3 months as part of their studies. All of the sudden, all kinds of mail started arriving for our son. All donation requests from different charities & ministries.  It took a bit of searching to figure out how his name suddenly appeared on all of these mailing lists – we tracked it back to World Mag.  I was not happy that they had given/sold (not sure which) his name. I called and asked that they remove his name from their share list and they did so.  I would recommend having that discussion up front with them. Maybe it doesn’t happen with GWN – in fact, we used these when the kids were younger and never had an issue.

Thanks for those links. I signed up for updates and received this email:

    “Dear Melissa,

Thank you for signing up to receive updates about the new WORLDTeen! This transition has been over two years in the making as we have prayerfully sought progressive and engaging new ways for our young readers to discover, explore and contemplate God’s world.

We have many exciting details to share with you in the upcoming months, so stay tuned for regular updates beginning in May. Also in May, you’ll be able to sign up for the new WORLDTeen. More details on that are to come.

In the meantime, thank you for your support in fostering faith, knowledge and understanding in the minds of children and teens everywhere.

    Sincerely,

    Howard Brinkman

WORLDKids, WORLDTeen & God’s Big WORLD”

Its not clear whether they mean May 2014 or 2015. However, since you can’t subscribe yet, I’d guess 2015. I also feel that my ds, at 11, is in between, maybe not quiet ready for the Teen magazine yet. I’m thinking I’ll call them tomorrow and try to get a little clarification. Perhaps I’ll go ahead and order their current layout for now (GWN 5th-6th grade) to bridge that gap, if its still available at least until May. I’ll see what they suggest. Since I was going to the gwnews site, I would have had no idea at all about the change. I really appreciate that information.

    Thanks again! 🙂

OK, the new magazines are what you will be subscribing to coming out this September. So if I was to go and order News Current (5-6gr), what I would actually get is the new WorldKids Magazine, which is considered K-6th (even though the flyer says 7-10). If you order Top Story or Trak you’ll get the new WorldTeen. The gentleman I spoke with at WorldMag also mentioned that the price will be going up, so you may want to go ahead and order while the website is still reflecting the current prices. Clear as mud? 🙂
